Made for designers

Collect the mood, explain the why.

References are only half a moodboard. Pin the pictures, then say what each one is for and how they lead to the decision.

Mood

warm, low light

Feeling

Like a slow Sunday morning, never a Monday.

Decisions

Palette

Oat, moss green and a little ember orange.

Type

A soft serif for the name, a plain sans for menus.

Brief

Brief: Fika café

A small café by the river wants a name, a sign and menus that feel slow and warm, the opposite of a coffee chain…

Frames, tape and pins.

Drop a folder of references and they land as polaroids. Frame a hero image in oak, tape the rest, caption what you're after.

Fika: the tone

Palette

Oat, moss green and a little ember orange.

Type

A soft serif for the name, a plain sans for menus.

Voice

Short sentences. Say coffee, not beverage.

Never

Chalkboard fonts. Fake handwriting.

Notes that name the feeling.

Palette, type, tone. A coloured note next to each picture says what it's for, so the board reads without you in the room.

From mood to decision.

Reference

Old Swedish bakery signs.

Direction

Hand-painted, warm, simple.

Decision

Painted sign, serif wordmark.

Rejected

Neon. Too loud for the river.

Arrow a reference to the decision it led to. Label it, and the reasoning is on the board, not lost in a call.

Questions

Can I show a board to a client?+

Yes. Turn on a board's link and anyone with it can look, no account needed. Signed in, they can ask to edit it with you, live, once you approve them (that takes untitled Plus). You can also export a board as one file for someone to import, or publish it as your page at untitled.cards/@you, for anyone to open.

What happens to big photos?+

Large photos are scaled down to stay quick on every device, and you can pick a frame, tape or a pin for each one.

What can I put on a board?+

Notes, handwritten headings, pen strokes, photos, videos, links, PDFs and PowerPoint decks, and documents you write here or bring in from Word or a spreadsheet. Paste a web address and it becomes a card with the page's title, picture and an Open button. A PDF shows its first page and opens to read every page. A Word document becomes a document you can edit, and each sheet of a spreadsheet (Excel, CSV or OpenDocument) a document holding it as a table; both keep the original file to download. A PowerPoint deck shows its outline and speaker notes, which you can search, and once you're signed in, its real slides.

Is untitled free?+

Yes, for your own boards: notes, photos, videos, PDFs, documents and sync across your devices (2 GB of photos, videos and files), with no ads and no card needed. The frog draws ten doodles a day with a free account, and you can publish a board as your page. untitled Plus, a paid plan, adds editing together with the people you let in, comments, 50 GB for photos, videos and files, thirty doodles a day, and your page at your own domain without the badge.

Does it work on my phone?+

Yes. On a phone a board becomes a list you can scroll and add to, headings as sections and arrows as a path to follow. Sign in, and it stays in step with your laptop.
